Vinnytsia is recognized as one of the best cities in Ukraine with the most favorable business climate and effective economic governance

Recently, the results of the research “Municipal Competitiveness Index (MCI) 2019/2020” were presented. The report became possible due to the support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Competitive Economy Program in Ukraine (via the subcontract with Info Sapiens (INFO SAPIENS LLC) and the NGO “Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting” (IER).

The first Municipal Competitiveness Index (MCI) is an assessment of the business climate and the interaction of government, entrepreneur, and investor in the city. For investors, this indicator can be the basis for making decisions about the feasibility of investing in the cities participating in this ranking.

In total, six cities received a high competitiveness index. The index of Vinnytsia is 65.45. Only three cities have higher indicators then Vinnytsia: Lviv (66.15), Ivano-Frankivsk (66.95) and Khmelnytskyi (72.96). Instead, Kyiv is on the 21st place with a score of 46.07 points.

The Municipal Competitiveness Index was conducted for the first time. Authors of the survey said that MCI is a tool for assessing the business climate in cities, measuring the effectiveness of economic governance and motivation of the local government to work with the local business community.

A large-scale survey was conducted to perform MCI 2019/2020. The first wave of the study covered 23 regional centers of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv. In total, 5115 heads of business entities were interviewed. They expressed their views on the business climate and the efforts of the city authorities to create a favorable environment. There were collected the statistical and administrative local data, conducted interviews with local authorities.
